Restaurant
The restaurant interior combines an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven, while the sitting area has floor-to-ceiling windows, framing the beautiful village and countryside views. The stalls have been repurposed to retain much of their original character and architectural detail, including exposed segments of the stone wall and roof trusses. Our tables have been hand-made by George & Billy using timber from Knightshayes Estate’s woodlands (and with help from Blundells’ CDT students), brought together to create a sense of place and purpose.
Garden
We have 4 raised beds to grow some interesting produce such as greens, beans and tomatoes, as well as edible flora. Apple trees for salads of cakes at the restaurant, with heritage orchards on the estate to make our cider.
The Lost Kitchen combines gastronomy and wood-fired cooking, using the best Devon and West Country produce. We aim to bring a relaxed Mediterranean approach to honest, seasonal British food.
The restaurant is led by husband and wife team George and Aurora Aykroyd, and Head Chef Jason Meade who work closely with local farmers, food producers and gardeners, to use ethical British produce with a focus on sustainability.
Menus reflect the seasons, focusing on seasonal produce.
Our wood-fired oven powers most of our cooking. All our other energy needs are provided by a renewable energy company that supplies only green energy and aims to make a difference in building a low-carbon economy. As such, we believe we are carbon neutral. Help us… by walking here.
